Concrete pipes are composite structures used to convey fluid matter. They can be round, elliptical, box shaped or arched. They are available in multiple lengths and can be manufactured on demand. Concrete pipes are chiefly used to transport water, drainage and sewerage.
As compared to plastic, rubber or fiber, aluminum and steel pipes, concrete pipes have higher strengths. They are durable, reliable, nonflammable, easily available, cost effective, easily designed and hydraulically efficient.
The concrete pipe manufacturing industry is regulated to follow various industry standards. Typical variations of concrete pipes are:
Non-Cylinder Reinforced Concrete Pressure Pipe: This concrete pipe is reinforced with a wire mesh for extra strength. It is used in gravity sewers, water intakes, outfalls, low pressure sewage force mains and water supply systems. Reinforced concrete pipes are also suitable for construction and gravitational transport of storm water.
Pre-stressed concrete steel cylinder pipe (PCCP): PCCP pipes are used in a variety of applications such as power plant cooling-water lines, transmission mains, distribution feeder mains, sewage force mains, gravity sewers, subaqueous lines, water intake and discharge lines and industrial pressure lines.
Two types of pre-stressed concrete pipes are Lined Cylinder Pipes and Embedded Cylinder Pipes. Concrete pipe manufacturers also offer steel fittings such as tees, elbows, adapter fittings and branch wyes to connect the pipes with other types of pipes.
